Should I get an Agreement in Principle (AIP) before I travel?

Do you need an AIP in place before coming to Spain?

We always advise, no matter your circumstances, to understand how much you can borrow and what the proposed terms of a mortgage will be before you travel to Spain.

Having an AIP in place before you book flights and accommodation will help you narrow down your Spanish property search. You may be able to borrow more or less than you think, so it means you can work with different estate agents based on what you can achieve and have a clear criteria for the property purchase.

Once you have an AIP it is valid for six months. When you have provisionally secured the finance you want, you can actively start looking for houses, knowing you can make an offer. It will also put you at an advantage over other property viewers who have not progressed to this stage.
