Can you exchange shares in lieu of cash for a deposit?
No - you cannot use shares themselves as a deposit for a mortgage in Spain. You will also be unable to exchange shares with the seller as means of forming a deposit. Of course, you are able to sell shares, liquidate them and use the proceeds as a monetary deposit.
